Is twitter taking social networking too far?

My reluctance to Twitter is illustrated in this YouTube video...

So fellow bloggers... where do you see Twitter fitting?

I can understand how some people view Twitter as being a little over the top. It can be used in a number of ways that are useful though.

I still consider Twitter as an potentially useful research tool to gather data on time use, much in the way that Csikszentmihalyi used beepers in Being Adolescent. We have been rolling the concept around at ABC Therapeutics - still looking for some grad students to help us work on the project.

Too many projects; too little time!

I am working to stay out of the twittersphere, and am irritated that facebook has become more twittery and myspacey. It just makes it harder to sort through the fluff to find the important messages. I guess it's just the natural evolution from AIM away messages, but I spend to much time on the computer anyway, twitter might just take it over the top.
